Happy Joe’s bankruptcy won’t impact Galesburg IL franchise
GALESBURG — Merry Joe’s Galesburg the location isn’t going anywhere, even though the pizza chain’s CEO has filed for bankruptcy on five of his restaurants.
As reported by The Quad City Times, Happy Joe President and CEO Thomas Sacco filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 2 in Delaware. Two company-owned sites in Iowa also recently closed.
But Leslie Boynton, manager and soon-to-be franchise owner of Happy Joe’s at 1727 N. Henderson St., confirmed that business in Galesburg was “booming” and customers shouldn’t expect any major changes.
Boynton, 43, has run Galesburg Happy Joe’s for eight years and will be the restaurant’s new franchise owner from October 1.
This means that Boynton will always consult with the Happy Joe’s business to ensure that restaurant recipes, menu and prices will stay the same as other chains, but she has the power to introduce new things, like a salad bar.
Boynton described the bankrupt sites as a few “bad stores that the company just needed to get rid of the grease” as the Happy Joe’s franchise continues to grow and plans to open more stores in Florida and Egypt.
The Chapter 11 filing would seek to revamp only company-owned stores, while franchise stores remain profitable and represent 90% of Happy’s Joe’s establishments.
Boynton said dinners and nights generally draw more business to the Galesburg location, but the restaurant also offers a lunch buffet every day except Saturdays, special Taco Tuesdays or Mojito Fridays, and parties. birthday are “huge” here.
“I won’t change a thing. My heart is here in the store,” Boynton said.
Happy Joe’s Galesburg hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The restaurant is also open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sundays.
